Cactus fig (Higo) - Opuntia ficus indica

The cactus fig or prickly pear belongs to the cactaceaes family. The fruit is oval shaped 150 to 170grms and 8 to 9cm long. The skin is thick, with small and thin thorns, which are taken off the fruit during harvest. Its colour can be green, yellow or orange; the pulp is fleshy with a slight granular texture. It has small edible black seeds. The cactusfig's flavour is sweet, resembling a combination between a pear and melon
