The Pitahaya is ideal to consume raw when ripe. In order to do this, cut the fruit in half and eat the pulp with a spoon; preferably the seeds are not to be chewed unless you wish to use them as a laxative. The pitahaya can also be consumed in fruit salads, juice, deserts, jam, ice cream, cocktails and wine. Furthermore, the Pitahaya is used for decoration.
